Title: Epidemiological Study of SARS-CoV IgG Antibody in Postmortem Blood Collected at the Los
Angeles
County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner”
Description: Analysis of SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies from blood collected at the time of post-mortem
examination can offer insight into timing and extent of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County. We
propose an epidemiological study of all blood samples collected in deaths beginning in November
2019 until May 2020 from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner (LA-MEO) to
identify earliest potential presence of disease, as well as to establish an estimate of extent of
infection by month. This study will assess extent of infection in Los Angeles County and will
highlight the value of postmortem examinations in pandemic illness.
